Antique Flowers by Mrs Jane Loudon, published in 1842 by William Smith of London.
These lithographs were engraved by Day & Hague who were lithographers by Royal Appointment to Queen Victoria. These plates are all in original hand watercolour, highlighted with gum arabic.
Mrs Loudon produced these wonderful plates from living specimens, she was very fortunate that her husband was one of the head gardeners of The Royal Botanical Gardens, Kew. These studies are some of the most beautifully executed floral engravings of the time.
Frame: Off white hand wash lined conservation mounts with a hand painted cream and gold frame.
